Karen Cooper survives Iowa blizzard

Huh? Ok, I was just trying to get your attention. So we didn't get nearly as much snow as the weather guys promised---maybe 6 or 7 inches. Lindsey and Chris had lots of ice, no electricity, and hopefully no roof damage. They had to cut tree branches to get them off their roof. Ouch.

So today I played Sunday afternoon painter. I finished a still life that has a jar of red cherry sour ball candy in it. I finished it minus the candy, as Brent had polished it off earlier. I guess that will teach me to move a little faster.

Karen Cooper makes the news, well sort of

Hey, look it's Friday already!

The "shades of red" opening went well last night, with a pretty good turnout of people. "Discover" magazine did a one page article covering the exhibit and called yours truely for a phone interview, so the Karen Cooper viewpoint of the color red is now pretty well published. After the opening we even made it up to the studio at the art center to paint. I was pretty pleased with that effort too. A few finishing touches and maybe I will get that (painting) posted for you as well.

So, how much do the weatherguys know today? If you say lots, then I will plan on spending the day in my studio here at home (ceramic heater definitely turned on), brush in hand, watching snow dump outside my window. Last I heard, 12". Oh joy, Iowa weather.

Clear Lake Art Center

Hello!

Ok, painting didn't happen today. Instead I took some previous episodes over to the new Clear Lake Art Center. Wow, what a great new facility! Beautiful! Hey, and there weren't even any paintings up yet!

They are opening in March with invited artists in the gallery. Yep, I will have several pieces hanging there for the opening. If you are lucky, I will find a jpg of one to add to this.

I have two addresses for you to get more info on the new facility. They are:

Yes, sorry, that second one is excessively long. Oh well, your tax dollars at work.

One more note, tommorrow is the opening for the "shades of red" exhibit at "Arts On Grand". Hopefully a good time will be had by all(!)

Links

Hello!

Northwest Iowa is warm today. Well comparatively speaking; the snow on our roof is melting enough that the eaves are all dripping pleasantly.

Yes, I am painting today, but it's not ready yet. Instead I'll point out that I've added two favorite links. One is "Art Fair Calendar", a great source of information for art show artists. They seem to have an especially good supply of info for Illinois-Michigan. The other is National Association of Independent Artists, which is a group of artists working to take the bumps and wrinkles out of exhibiting at summer art shows. Check them out.

more "Shades Of Red"

Yes, I am well aware this is still February 17th, but I decided that since I mentioned the other painting going to the "Shades Of Red" exhibit, I should post it as well. And so it be---

"Shades of Red"

Hello!

Happy February 17th to you! I just uploaded my first painting to my new blogspace. It's called "One Red Zinnia". This painting and one other, "Still Life Page From A Favorite Book" are headed to the "Shades Of Red" exhibit at "Arts On Grand" next Monday. "Arts On Grand" is a gallery space in Spencer, Iowa. The exhibit will be on display from February 21 thru March 24, with a gallery reception on February 22 from 5:00pm-6:30pm. If you're in the neighborhood, do stop in!
